The value of guardrails

If you have ever driven along a road, you have seen guardrails. Guardrails serve a couple of purposes. First, they alert you to the edge of the road and the potential danger if you go through the guardrail. Second, if you do hit the guardrail with your vehicle the rail will potentially stop you from going over the edge and descending into a disastrous situation. However, guardrails do not eliminate the possibility of injuries or even fatalities. If you hit the guardrail your vehicle will sustain some damage and there is even the possibility you may receive injuries.

Likewise in the Christian life we have a guardrail that is designed to alert us to danger and to guard us from disaster (Psalm 119:9). The Word is designed to keep us on the road to spiritual maturity. However, if we venture right up to the guardrail we to will potentially sustain injury. An arrogant fool will see the guardrail and the danger that lies beyond it and continue down the destructive path. A wise person sees the guardrail as a warning of the danger and turns away from it (Proverbs 14:16). Which are you; the fool characterized by brash arrogance or the wise man who with humble courage turns away to avoid a spiritual wreck.?
