God

THEOLOGY PROPER-the study of God; the Nature and Work of our Creator! Do you know Him?

God

I believe in one living God (Deut. 6:4; Isa. 45:5-7; I Cor. 8:4) who is eternally existing in perfection and in one essence in three persons—Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

God the father

  • Creator of all things (Gen. 1:1-31; Neh. 9:6).

  • The only all knowing ruler in universe (Ps. 103:19).

  • As Creator he is Father of all people (Eph. 4:6).

  • BUT he is a Spiritual Father ONLY to believers (Rom. 8:14; 2 Cor. 6:18).

  • All things that come to pass is for his glory (Eph. 1:11).

  • His sovereignty upholds, directs, and governs all things (I Chron. 29:11).

  • He chose from eternity past those that will be his (Eph. 1:4-6).

  • He saves those that come to Him through faith in Jesus Christ (Jn. 1:12).

God the son

  • Jesus Christ the second person of the Trinity, eternal God (Jn.1:1-3; Col. 1:15-17; Heb. 1:2).

  • Jesus Christ became the God-man through the incarnation (Phil. 2:5-8; Col. 2:9).

  • He was virgin born (Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23,25; Luke 1:26-35).

  • Jesus Christ voluntarily shed his blood through the crucifixion (John 10:15; Rom. 3:24-25; I Peter 2:24).

  • For believers he became sin and paid the penalty for a believers sin which provides for our adoption into the family of God (Rom 3:25; 5:8-9; 2 Cor. 5:14-15).

  • His resurrection from the dead and position with the Father provides our justification as He is our Advocate and High Priest (Matt. 28:6; Rom. 4:25; Heb. 7:25; 9:24; I John 2:1).

  • Jesus Christ will return for His church (believers) and establish His millenial kingdom on earth (I Thess. 4:13-18); Rev. 20).

  • God will judge all humankind through Jesus Christ (John 5:22-23).

God the holy spirit

  • The Holy Spirit is a divine person possessing all the attributes of God the Father and God the Son (Matt. 28:19; Acts 5:3-4; I Cor. 12:4-6; Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 10:15-17).

  • Holy Spirit executes the divine will to humankind (Gen. 1:2; Matt. 1:18; 2 Peter 1:20-21; John 3:5-7).

  • The work of Holy Spirit for the church age began at Pentecost (John 14:16-17).

  • The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement (John 16:7-9).

  • The Holy Spirit is agent of regeneration; sanctifying, teaching, empowering believers and keeping us till the day of redemption (I Cor. 12:13; Rom. 8:9-11; I Cor. 3:6; Ephesians 1:13).

  • The Holy Spirit only guided the apostles and prophets in the writing of the revelation of the Bible (2 Peter 1:19-21; 2 Timothy 3:16).

  • There is ONLY one baptism of Holy Spirit at salvation but we are to continue to be controlled by the Spirit (Rom. 8:9-11; Ephesians 5:18; I John 2:20,27).

  • The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts to all believers at salvation for the purpose of perfecting believers (Romans 12:6-8; I Cor. 12:4-11; 13:8-10).

  • The sign gifts (speaking in tongues and the working of miracles) were only for the purpose of pointing to and authenticating the apostles teaching of divine truth (2 Cor. 12:12; Ephesians 4:7-12; Heb. 2:1-4).
